My name is Jason and I'm a personal trainer from Atlanta, GA. My passion for fitness blossomed in my early 20's as I gave up the partying lifestyle and needed more structure in my life. I quickly fell in love with weight training because of how it made me feel. It was an excellent outlet for my anxiety and boundless energy. As much as I loved lifting, I had to be mindful about my spine. I survived multiple car accidents which have had a lot of long-term impact on me.
The first accident I survived was when I was only 3 years old. A car was speeding through my neighborhood while I was playing in front of my home. They slammed on their breaks when they saw me but it was too late. My left femur was broken and I was in a wheelchair for several months afterwards.
The most recent accident was in 2008 when I was living in Los Angeles; someone made an illegal U-turn in the middle of the street and crashed right into the driver's door of my old Honda Civic- the window popped out in one piece and gave me a concussion. A week later I bent over to tie my shoelace and felt a sudden twinge in my lower back which turned out to be a herniated disc in my L5-S1. I ended up needing surgery after trying every other possible way to reverse my sciatica, but thankfully the surgery (microdiscectomy) was a success. During the time I recovered from from the procedure I got my first personal training certification.
My entire craft of personal training is centered around achieving maximum results while minimizing compressive force on the spine. I believe in miracles and believe that God wants me alive for a reason. I have an inventive spirit and always try to find a way to make lemonade out of lemons. Before I had a home gym to train out of, I would train my clients at their home or condominium gyms. One piece of equipment I found myself using a lot with my clients is a functional trainer. Many of my clients also had various injuries that I had to consider, so I wanted to find a safe alternative to barbell squats and deadlifts. This is where the idea for the Squat Harness was born. Following the release of the first Squat Harness, I worked on some other product ideas that I thought about over the years, including a squat wedge with resistance band grooves.
No story about my life would be complete without mentioning my beautiful and amazing wife, Shay Rosenblatt. I had a crush on Shay since we were in high school but was too shy to ask her on a date. We crossed paths after many years and fell in love very quickly. Shay saw something in me from day 1 and encouraged me to pursue my ideas. She always stood beside me and I do the same for her. I inspired her to also become a personal trainer. Today we both train our clients side by side in our amazing home gym and couldn't be happier!
